ALUMINUM TERMS
Polyester
Characteristics:
Low cost; resistance to marring, staining, solvents and corrosion; excellent formability; adhesion, available in a wide range of gloss and colors.
Applications:
Building components; garage and entry doors; manufactured housing; lighting; heating and air conditioning equipment; appliances; office products and furniture.
Acrylic
Characteristics:
Solid stain, abrasion and mar-resistance coupled with good durability; limited formability; low to full gloss range; high bonding properties.
Applications:
Transportation, appliances, sign stock; light fixtures; truck trailer panels, laminated panels.
Silicone Polyester
Characteristics:
Hardness and mar resistance to solvents, corrosion and humidity; adhesion; color and gloss retention; applied cost.
Applications:
Pre-engineered buildings: rural buildings; rural buildings; insulated building components.
Kynar 500® PVDF Resin-Based Coatings
Characteristics:
Color and gloss retention; solvent, chemical and humidity resistance; film flexibility; ease of application.
Applications:
Architectural roofing and siding; residential roofing; insulated building panels; automotive trim.

GLOSSARY
Alloy - Composition of Aluminum alloys
Backer coat - Controlled film or color on backside coating when not a full coat
Backside finish - When painting painted two (P2), color on backside of the metal
Bare rolled to gauge - Mill Finish minimum gauge. Expressed in thousands for Al and gauge or thousands for Fe
Closed van - A closed trailer
Coil Eye up - Inside diameter of the coil in vertical position
Coil Eye down - Inside diameter of the coil in horizontal position
Color - Basic Hue (White, Black, Green etc.)
Color tolerance L,a,b - Plus or minus tolerance for a specific variation of hue
Cores - Fiber core on the inside diameter of the coil
Current supplier - Name of customer current supplier
DFT - Dry film thickness of coating applied
Dyne level - Minimum dyne level requirement
Emboss depth - Depth of embossing, typical emboss depth's 0.006" - 0.008"
Emboss pattern - Rustic Cedar or Stucco only. Both patterns directional
End use - What does the customer manufacture from coil stock supplied
Flatbed end load - An open trailer, loaded with skid runners horizontal to trailer bed
Flatbed side load - An open trailer, loaded with skid runners transverse to the trailer bed
Grade / Temper - Hardness of metal
Key customer requirements - Flatness, camber, width etc.
Min / Max. coil weight -Minimum and maximum individual coil weights
Number coils / skid - Number of coils place on one skid
Over wind - Coil wound with topcoat finish on the outside
P1/P2 - Painted one/Painted two
Paper wrap - Brown paper wrap
Pretreatment required - For steel (Fe) Zinc Phosphate, Zinc Phosphate sealed with Chromium (Cr 6)
Primer - Coating under top coat or backside finish coat
Quantity - How many pounds required
Quantity tolerance (+-) - Plus or minus percentage on quantity required
Resin type - Paint system
Separator type - Wood, fiber or other specified
Single invoice - Order invoiced for metal and paint
Skid type - All skids are wood unless specified otherwise
Substrate - Aluminum, steel and other variations of steel
T-Bend - Minimum radius of manufactured part
Toll - Order invoiced for painting only. (Customer metal)
Top finish - Coating applied to top side of coil
Total dry film thickness - Total dry film thickness of topcoat paint and primer, if applicable
Under wind - Topcoat wound with topcoat finish on the inside
Vendor specified - Customer specifies the paint supplier
Warranty requirements - When applicable, terms of warranty must be obtained
Wash coat - Coating on painted one (P1) backside not color specified or controlled
